TV Show Review #3 - Who Shot Otto Mueller? (S1)

Afbeelding
An Estonian TV series, in which tough businessman Otto Mueller plays the central role. In this murder mystery, Otto Mueller is murdered on his own birthday, with eight relatives and acquaintances present. On the basis of eight interrogations, two detectives try to unravel this mystery – and find an answer to that one question: Who shot Otto Mueller? The series consists of eight episodes, in which the interrogation of one of the eight suspects is central in each episode. Initially an interesting concept, but this gets boring and irritating. For example, the same scenes are repeated every episode, from a different perspective, which in reality produces only minute changes. This makes the series very monotonous and long-winded. The many repetitions could have been worked out a lot better, if the perspectives of the different characters would have been further apart. Another disturbing factor is the depressing detective work to say the least. It seems that these detectives are not allowed

Movie Review #2 - Dealer (2021)

Jeroen Perceval, who enjoyed greatness as an actor in Flanders, delivers a contemporary and confrontational movie about drugs that is an extension of this with his directorial debut: Dealer. A rock-solid story that takes place in a world where there are no winners. In this movie, "the dealer" is the fourteen-year-old coarse-mouthed Johnny who has exchanged school for the hard nightlife in the port city of Antwerp. Johnny is the kind of guy you know in advance that it will never end well for him. He hardly sees his mother anymore, because of her psychosis means she ends up in a psychiatric hospital all the time. For that reason he lives in shelter for teenagers. Johnny is the toy of the drug supplier Luca, who is not of afraid of brutal violence. When Johnny crosses paths with popular film actor Antony, who is hopelessly on drugs himself, a brighter future lies ahead. At least, that is what you (as viewer) hope for...  Ben Segers (Antony) is one of the most popular TV actors o

Movie Review #1 - Greenland (2020)

The genre of disaster movies usually breaks down into films that focus on spectacle and titles that rely mainly on drama. Now that we ourselves have ended up in worldwide disaster situation, it appears not only that film makers can come pretty close to the reality, but also that wathcing a disaster movie takes on an extra dimension. The Amazon production Greenland tries to unite both disciplines and does so with a decent end result.  Realism  The basic idea that a meteorite crashes into the earth is not that crazy. In the past, such an impact wiped out the dinosaurs, and most scientists claim it is only a matter of time before such a disaster strikes Earth again. From that moment on, realism largely ceases. Instead of all the fragments almost perishing in the atmosphere, a worldwide disaster takes place. The entire world has become completely unlivable within a few days, without a single scientist having seen that coming. It is mainly for this reason that the film never really manage

TV Show Review #2 - Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power (S1)

"The most expensive series ever made". This, of course, creates certain expectations. And in many aspects this series also manages to live up to those expectations. I have never read the books, nor was I a big fan of the movies (both the original Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit). Though, I think this helps more with appreciating this series sequel to both trilogies, because the concept of a Hobbit going on a quest is defintely not up for grabs this series. Its look more like a Game of Thrones-like variant of Middle-Earth, but it just lacks the depth and the political playing field to really captivate.  Since several storylines are played relatively separately from each other, I will now review them separately first.  Elves and Dwarves The elves and dwarves collectively got a lot of airtime within this series. This storylines of both Galadriel and Elrond & Durin IV know how to captivate, although I think Galadriel could have been put away a bit stronger or more mystical

TV Show Review #1 - Rampvlucht

The latest series of NPO Plus, named "Rampvlucht", takes you as viewer to the day of October 4, 1992. The day that a Boeing 747 of the Israeli airline company El Al crashed in the Bijlmermeer. From the first moment, the show manages to stick and each time a piece of the mystery is revealed through two determined investigative journalists (Thomas Höppener and Yorick van Wageningen) and a fictional veterinarian (Joy Delima).  The Bijlmer disaster was an air disaster that took place on Sunday evening, the 4th of October in 1992 in Amsterdam, more specifically in the Bijlmermeer. A Boeing 747 cargo plane, flight LY-1862 of the Israeli airline El Al, crashed into the "Groeneveen" and "Klein-Kruitberg" flats. The disaster claimed the lives of at least 43 people, including the crew of three and the plane's sole passenger. The Bijlmer disaster is one of the deadliest events in the history of Dutch aviation. This show is partly fiction, but mainly true.  In the

As a big fan of movies and series it was about time for me to share my opinion about this fascinating world. In the coming period I will share reviews of all the films and TV shows that I will watch from this moment on.  As stated before, this will be a mix of films and TV shows, with more famous and lesser-known titles alternating. You might notice, after a while, that there are also relatively many Dutch titles on my watchlist, which is because I myself come from the beautiful little country called The Netherlands.  Of course, each review will conclude with the final verdict (score between 0 and 10), in which I am able to express my opinion on whether that movie or TV show is worth your time.  To give you a corner of the veil, I will already share some film and TV show titles that can be expected in the near future:  - Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Amazon Prime Video) - Who Shot Otto Mueller? (Viaplay) - Rampvlucht (NPO Plus) - Roswell, New Mexico (HBO Max)
